A Drama To The Sea

Fish are not happy in aquariums – an illustration criticising aquatic animal theme parks.

“You know why the sea is salty? —it’s our tears!“
I was instructed to create an illustrated map for the Israel Aquarium, Jerusalem. Since I don’t support the idea of animals in cages, I wrote quotes for the fish, imagining their thoughts, as a way to criticize the place itself. I chose the theatre as a frame for the drama that is going on in the aquarium. Its protagonists are humorous as well as dramatic, to enhance the contrast between the sea creatures’ troubled life and their joyful look.
